CyberKnife is an innovative, completely non-invasive radiation therapy system designed to target prostate tumors with pinpoint accuracy. Using stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), high levels of radiation are delivered directly to the tumor with sub-millimeter precision.
In any prostate cancer treatment, the prostate can move up to two inches unpredictably. The CyberKnife targets the tumor’s exact position in real time to maintain precise accuracy before the radiation dose is delivered. This ensures a more effective treatment, as well as minimizing exposure to the surrounding healthy tissue.
CyberKnife uses a linear accelerator at the end of a robotic arm to enable the machine to deliver its radiation doses from hundreds of angles, resulting in the most direct and accurate radiation therapy possible. With a maximum of 5 treatment sessions, CyberKnife has shown improved results and reduced side effects in patients.
