PROSTATE MOVEMENT

PROSTATE MOVEMENT

The challenge faced by all oncologists when treating the prostate with radiation or proton therapy is that the prostate continually moves throughout treatment. The CyberKnife System is the first and only technology that achieves sub-millimeter accuracy with combined advanced robotics, exclusive real-time tumor-tracking software, and continued image guidance throughout treatment to verify each beam is on target before it treats. The CyberKnife System is able to automatically and precisely correct for patient and tumor movement. Other radiation treatments require the use of rectal balloons, large tracking devices implanted into the prostate, and a technique called gating in an attempt to better predict tumor movement with the utmost precision.

The CyberKnife® System is clinically proven as a premier prostate cancer treatment. It delivers high-dose, radiation beams with pinpoint accuracy to kill prostate cancer cells. The CyberKnife System requires no more than five short treatments, once per day, rather than eight weeks of treatments required of standard radiation, or seven weeks of proton therapy. It’s non-surgical, non-invasive, requires no anesthesia, and is completely painless. Here’s how it works:

Treats tumors in motion with sophisticated real-time image guidance software. Because the CyberKnife adjusts rapidly to even the smallest body movements, you can skip the uncomfortable restraints or compression devicesThe CyberKnife System’s software controls its robotic movements and leverages real-time imaging to ensure the tumor is targeted with the utmost precision. This accuracy enables doctors to calculate and target your radiation dosage with incredible accuracy.

Delivers high doses radiation with sub-millimeter accuracy. Even the most effective radiation treatments for prostate cancer can destroy both unhealthy cancer cells and damage healthy surrounding tissue. Meanwhile, CyberKnife treatment delivers highly targeted doses of radiation that spare healthy prostate cells from radiation damage, and result in minimal side effects.

Powered by advanced robotics. The CyberKnife System’s innovative robotic design enables it to target prostate cancer from virtually any angle.
